Fascinated by the obscuration of contemporary dance, I decided to dig deeper into the origins of this genre. Contemporary dance reflects a complex nature and style of dance emerged in a time when dancers did not wish to be bounded by the vocabulary of classical ballet. Dancers sought to expand their artistic sphere and developed new forms and techniques. Essentially, breaking the rules to embrace the freedom of expression.
The typography concept integrates perspective, motion blur and consciously created space between lines, words and arrangement. This dynamic notion is taken to bring out the idea of passing time and the pacing from dance choreographies.
Following are attempts to introduce the typography concept into different forms- an elastic band, photography projection, a banner. These manifestations are chosen to highlight the boundlessness of contemporary dance as the typography lies uniquely in each scenario.
